Ball Implants and Manglish
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

At YuWen's house yesterday (YuWen, 8, F. ShiHao, 15, M. ShiWei, 13, M.)

Me: *talks about video above* ... So when the interviewer asked about his new teeth (he got them straightened, whitened, and his lateral incisors were grinded to make them less sharp or something), he was like, "Why are you talking about my teeth when I got lip enhancements?" But he was being sarcastic la. Then Tom and Bill said Bill got breast implants and butt implants also.
ShiHao: You forgot one thing.
Me: What?
ShiHao: BALL IMPLANTS!!
ShiHao, ShiWei, YuWen: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BALL IMPLANTS HAHAHA!
Me: He already has them, what does he want that for?
ShiHao: He only has one!
Me: Why??
ShiHao: Coz he's half-and-half (half-male half-female)! Hahahaha!
My gosh. Anyways, you'll never believe what I found. I found an article about Manglish, the version of English we Malaysians speak here in Malaysia, Asia, the World, the Galaxy, the Universe!!
Click here to read it. Here's the first 2 paragraphs:
Manglish (or sometimes Malglish or Mangled English) is the colloquial version of the English language as spoken in Malaysia and it is a portmanteau of the word Malay and English (also possibly Mandarin and English).
The vocabulary of Manglish consists of words originating from English, Malay, Hokkien, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil, and to a lesser extent various other European languages, while Manglish syntax resembles southern varieties of Chinese. Also, elements of American and Australian slang have come through from imported television series.
OMG, it even has other Manglish particles that are so famous here in Malaysia! For example: lah, nah, meh, liao, dy/ady/edy, le, one/wan -- e.g. "Why you so like that wan?" (OMG?!?!)! And also action (show-off), blur, pai-seh, beraking (pooping), foo yoh, syok, die/finish/gone/habis/sei, etc. And also what. Example: "You never give me also what!" And "where got". Even "bladibarsket", which I have never heard of before.

A MUST-READ FOR ANY MALAYSIAN (or anyone who wants to know what odd language it is that Malaysians are speaking)!
